Our Morning Offering – 24 March – How Great is Your Goodness, Lord

Our Morning Offering – 24 March – The Third Sunday of Lent, Year C

How Great is Your Goodness, Lord
By Archbishop Baldwin of Canterbury (c 1125-1190)

How great is Your goodness, Lord,
who does not shrink from letting
Your servant, place You upon his heart!
How great my own worth,
since You have chosen me
to have part in Yours,
to have You abiding in me,
to love You, as You deserve,
above myself.
Lord, take from me this hard heart
and give me a new, clean heart
of flesh and blood.
You who make my heart pure,
take possession of mine
and make it Your home.
Hold it and fill it,
You who are higher than my topmost height,
more inward than my inward being.
You, the seal of holiness,
beauty of beauties,
engrave on my heart
Your image
and the imprint of Your mercy.
Be, O God,
my eternal love
and my inheritance.

Our Morning Offering – 10 March – St Anselm – Prayer before Holy Communion

Our Morning Offering – 10 March – The First Sunday of Lent

Prayer Before Holy Communion
By St Anselm (1033-1109)
Doctor of the Church

O Lord Jesus Christ,
Son of the living God,
who according to the will of the Father
and with the co-operation of the Holy Spirit,
has by Your death given life to the world,
I adore and revere this Your Holy Body
and this Your Holy Blood,
which was given over
and poured forth for the many,
unto remission of sins.
O merciful Lord,
I beg of Your mercy,
that through the power of this Sacrament,
You will make me one of that many.
Through faith and love, make me feel
the power of these Sacraments,
so I may experience their saving power.
Absolve and free from all sin
and punishment of sin, Your servants,
Your handmaidens, myself,
all who confessed their sins to me,
those whom I have promised
or am obliged to pray for
and so too those who themselves hope
or beg to be helped by my prayers with You.
Make our Church rejoice
in Your constant protection and consolation.

Our Morning Offering – 17 February – Suscipe Sancte Pater

Our Morning Offering – 17 February – Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year C

Suscipe Sancte Pater
1903 Mass Ordinary by Solesmes Abbey

All that we have, O Lord,
comes from You
and belongs to You.
It is just, therefore,
that we return it to You.
But how wonderful are You
in the inventions
of Your immense love!
This bread, which we are offering
to You, is to give place,
in a few moments,
to the Sacred Body of Jesus.
We beseech You, receive, together
with this oblation,
our hearts, which long to live
by You
and to cease to live
their own life of self!

O Most Sacred, Most Loving Heart of Jesus
By Blessed John Henry Newman (1801-1890)

O Most Sacred, most loving Heart of Jesus,
You are concealed in the Holy Eucharist
and You beat for us still.
Now, as then You say,
“With desire I have desired.”
I worship You the,
with all my best love and awe,
with my fervent affection,
with my most subdued, most resolved will.
You, for a while, take up Your abode within me!
O make my heart beat with Your Heart.
Purify it of all that is earthly,
all that is proud and sensual,
all that is hard and cruel,
of all perversity,
of all disorder,
of all deadness.
So fill it with Thee,
that neither the events of the day
nor the circumstances of the time,
may have power to ruffle it
but that, in Your love
and Your fear,
it may have peace.

Dear Lord, I Approach You
(Prayer before Holy Communion)
By Thomas à Kempis (1380-1471)

Dear Lord,
with simplicity of heart,
in good and stable faith
and at Your command,
I approach You,
full of confidence and adoration,
truly believing that You are present
in this Sacrament, God and Man.
It is Your will that I receive You
and bind myself to You in love.
Most merciful Lord,
I beg of You that special grace,
that my soul may melt and overflow
with Your love,
never concerning myself again
with any other comfort but Your own.

Prayer Before Holy Communion
Veni Domine Jesu!
By Fr Henry Augustus Rawes OSC (1826 – 1885) Oblate of St Charles
(1940 Prayer Book)

O Jesus, hidden God, I cry to You,
O Jesus, hidden Light, I turn to You,
O Jesus, hidden love, I run to You,
with all the strength I have, I worship You,
with all the love I have, I cling to You,
with all my soul, I long to be with You
and fear no more to fail, or fall from You.

O Jesus, never-ending love, Who seeks me,
You who die for longing love of me,
King, in all Your beauty, come to me,
white-robed, blood-sprinkled Jesus, come to me
and go no more, dear Lord, away from me.

O sweetest Jesus, bring me home to You,
free me, dearest God, from all but You.
From all the chains that keep me back from You,
call me, most powerful love, I’ll follow You,
You are my all and I love only You.

O hidden love, who now is loving me,
O wounded love, who once was dead to me,
O patient love, who wearies not of me,
O bear with me, till I am lost in You,
O bear with me, till I am found in You,
amen.

Make Me Pure
(Prayer for the Sanctification of our bodies by Christ’s Body)
By Blessed John Henry Newman (1801-1890)

O my God,
teach me to live as one
who truly believes
in the great dignity,
the great sanctity
of this material body
in which You have lodged me.
And, therefore, dear Saviour,
I come often and earnestly,
to be a partaker of Your Holy Body and Blood,
so that by Your unutterable holiness,
I too may be made holy.
O my Lord Jesus,
I believe that our bodies
are the temples
of the Holy Spirit.
Should we not venerate that body
which You feed miraculously
with Your risen Body
and which the Spirit of God,
Your Spirit, inhabits.
O my God, who was nailed to the cross,
‘pierce my flesh with fear of you’
crucify my soul and body
in all that is sinful in them
and make me pure,
as You are pure.
