St Gerard’s Family Leaguest_gerards_leagueheader

Although his life was short, he managed to achieve great holiness.   So numerous were the miracles God worked through him, that even during his lifetime he was called the“ wonder-worker “.

Since his death in 1775, countless favours and miracles have been granted and worked through his intercession.   (In this regard, I know personally of a miracle granted by St Gerard’s intercession.)

As well as the patron of a good confession, he has become well known as the patron of mothers and has been invoked as a constant source of help and inspiration to parents.

The League of St Gerard is an association of Christians united in prayer for family life and its Christian values.

The League Prayer is on the site but I copied it here gerard and league prayer

Thanksgiving Prayer for St Gerard
and Request for his Intercession

Almighty and loving Father,
We thank You for giving St Gerard to us
as a most appealing model and powerful friend.
By his example,
he showed us how to love and trust You.
You have showered many blessings
on those who call upon him.
For Your greater glory and my welfare,
please grant the favours
which I ask in his name.
(Mention your needs here…)
And you, my powerful patron,
intercede for me before the throne of God.
Draw near to that throne
and do not leave it until you have been heard.
O good saint,
to you I address my fervent prayers,
graciously accept them
and let me experience in some way
the effects of your powerful intercession.
Through Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit,
God forever,
Amen.thanksgiving prayer for st gerard majella and request for his intercession - 16 oct 2018

NOVENA to St John Paul the Great DAY ONE – 13 OCTOBER

NOVENA to St John Paul the Great DAY ONE – 13 OCTOBER

Little Known Fact #1:  During his Theological Studies in Seminary, Karol Wojtyla greatly desired to read the works of St John of the Cross in the original Spanish language. He mastered the language very quickly and was even asked by the Spanish instructor to assist him in translating a Spanish text that was to be read over the Polish new radio a few hours before it would be broadcast.

REFLECTION:   “Follow me.” The Risen Lord says these words to Peter.   They are His last words to this disciple, chosen to shepherd His flock.   “Follow me” – this lapidary saying of Christ can be taken as the key to understanding the message which comes to us from the life of our late beloved Pope John Paul II. …” …Pope Benedictday-one-novena-st-john-paul-13-oct-2017-2

Let us Pray:

O Holy Trinity, we thank You for having given to the Church Pope John Paul II and for having made him shine with Your fatherly tenderness, the glory of the Cross of Christ and the splendour of the Spirit of love.

He, trusting completely in Your infinite mercy and in the maternal intercession of Mary, has shown himself in the likeness of Jesus the Good Shepherd and has pointed out to us the way of holiness as the path to reach eternal communion with You Grant us, through his intercession, according to Your will, the grace that we implore,

………………….. [state your intention here].

Continue, beloved St John Paul, we implore you, to sustain from heaven the faith of God’s people.   We praise and thank You Father that St John Paul has been numbered among Your saints and make our prayer through our Lord Jesus Christ with the Holy Spirit, one God forever.

Totus Tuus, Amen.

Our Morning Offering – 29 September – The Feast of Sts Michael, Gabriel and Raphael

Our Morning Offering – 29 September – The Feast of Sts Michael, Gabriel and Raphael

Prayer to St Michael

St Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle,
be our defense against the wickedness
and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him we humbly pray
and do thou o’ prince of the Heavenly Host,
by the power of God,
cast into hell, satan and all the evil spirits
who prowl throughout the world,
seeking the ruin of souls.

Prayer to St Gabriel

O God, who from among all Your angels
chose the Archangel Gabriel
to announce the mystery of the Incarnation,
mercifully grant that we who solemnly
remember him on earth,
may feel the benefit of his patronage in heaven,
with Jesus who lives and reigns forever and ever.

Prayer to the Archangel Raphael

Glorious Archangel St Raphael,
great prince of the heavenly court,
you are illustrious for your gifts of wisdom and grace.
You are a guide of those who journey by land or sea or air,
consoler of the afflicted and refuge of sinners.
I beg you, assist me in all my needs
and in all the sufferings of this life,
as once you helped the young Tobias on his travels.
Because you are the “medicine of God”,
I humbly pray you to heal the many infirmities of my soul
and the ills that afflict my body.
I especially ask of you the great grace of purity
to prepare me to be the temple of the Holy Spirit.

Thought for the Day – 21 September – The Feast of St Matthew, Apostle and Evangelist- Today’s Gospel: Matthew 9:9–13

Thank you, Matthew, for your story, because it is you who writes your own story.   Thank you, because you were a sinner and became an Apostle.   And that is very encouraging for me because I’m a sinner and have to become an Apostle.   Thank you, Matthew, because you were a publican who was lining his pockets with the money of the Jews but when Jesus called you, you were ready to leave everything and follow Him.

Thank you, Matthew, because you could have stayed where you were thinking that it was crazy to leave your job, your money, your plans and your future… but you were brave enough to follow Jesus instead.   And I give thanks with you to Jesus because He knew you well and was aware of the great things that you could do.   While on that day some of the Jews looked at you with disdain, that Jew, Jesus of Nazareth, passed by your tax office and smiled at you.   He stood there, gazing at you with affection, a loving look, the like of which a publican in Palestine had probably never experienced.   And you couldn’t look anywhere else.   That loving face of Jesus was inviting you to do something special with your life.

You weren’t happy and Jesus offered you Happiness.   You were wasting your life and Jesus invited you to do something great with it.   You only loved your money but Jesus helped you to expand your heart to love God and others more than yourself.   Your talents were wasted in that tax office and millions of souls were waiting for you.   Thank you, Matthew, because you said ‘yes’ to Jesus.

Mary, Queen of the Apostles, help me to have the courage to say ‘yes’ to Him as well and become a saint, like you, like St Matthew and please pray for us all!

We thank You, heavenly Father,
for the witness of Your apostle
and evangelist Matthew
to the Gospel of Your Son our Saviour
and we pray that, after his example,
we may with ready wills and hearts
obey the calling of our Lord to follow Him;
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and forever.

Thought for the Day – 26 August – The Feat of Our Lady of Czestochowa, Queen of Poland

Czestochowa — 4 June 1997

“O Mother of God, O Blessed Virgin, by God have you been glorified!”

Mother of Jasna Góra and Queen, I come to you today on a pilgrimage of faith to thank you for your ceaseless protection of all the Church and of myself, especially during the fifty years of my priesthood and those of my service in the See of Peter.   With great trust I come to this holy place — on the hill of Jasna Góra, so dear to my heart, to cry out once more:  Mother of God and our Mother, I thank you for being the guiding Star of the building of a better future for the world, for being the Patroness of the attainment of the civilisation of love among the members of the human race.   Mother, I humbly beseech you, surround with your maternal protection the days and years which still separate us from the Year 2000. I entrust to your intercession the preparation for the Great Jubilee of Christianity.   Help all the nations of the world to begin the new millennium in union with Christ, the King of the ages.

Mother of the Church, Blessed Virgin Help of Christians, in the humility of Peter’s faith I bring to your feet the whole Church, all the continents, countries and nations which have believed in Jesus Christ and have recognised in Him the signpost marking their path through history.   I bring here, O Mother, all humanity, including those still searching for the way to Christ.   Be their guide and help them to be open to the God who is coming.   I bring to you in prayer the peoples of East and West, of North and South and I entrust to your motherly care all the families of nations.   Mother of the Church’s faith, just as you persevered in prayer with Jesus’ disciples in the Upper Room, so be with us today in the Upper Room of the Church as she travels towards the third millennium of faith and obtain for us the grace to be open to the gift of God’s Spirit.

Faithful Daughter of the Eternal Father , Temple of the Love that embraces heaven and earth, I entrust to you the service of the Church in the world, a world which so needs love. Mother of God, Mother of the only-begotten Son who gave us as the principle of life the new commandment of love, help us to become builders of a united world, in which peace triumphs over war, and the civilization of death is replaced by love for life.

Mother of Unity and Peace, strengthen the bond of communion within the Church of your Son, enliven ecumenical efforts so that all Christians, by the power of the Holy Spirit, may become one family of sisters and brothers of Jesus Christ, the one Saviour of the world yesterday, today and for ever (cf. Heb. 13:8).

O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary, accept our trust, strengthen it in our hearts and present it before the face of the one God in the Holy Trinity. Amen.

with body and soul amid joy and sufferings,

Thought for the Day – 23 August – the Memorial of St Rose of Lima (1586-1617)

Thought for the Day – 23 August – Thursday of the Twentieth week in Ordinary Time, Year B – Today’s Gospel: Matthew 22:1-14 and the Memorial of St Rose of Lima (1586-1617)

Who can begin to imagine how the smallest of our actions, done in love of God and neighbour, can lead to immense results?   For we know that the mustard seed is tiny and grows into the greatest of shrubs.

When St Rose began taking in the destitute, the old and infirm, the poor and the sick, could she have dreamed that this small service would become the beginning of social services in Peru?   Moreover, she became known and loved throughout Peru and remains so, by rich and poor alike, who look to her for protection from calamity and for the protection of God, by her prayers.

City officials and senators, carried her body to its grave and she was revered as a saint from the moment she died, in fact whilst she lived.   It was impossible to hold her funeral for several days due to the immense crowds and so, she was finally buried privately.

St Rose found her own unique pathway to sanctity when her plans to become a nun were frustrated.   Remembering, all is God’s will, nothing is random or wasted, go forth, find a way and set the world on fire in your wedding garment!

Glorious St Rose of Lima,
you who knew, what it was to love Jesus
with such a fine and generous heart.
You, whom since infancy,
despised the world’s vanities
in order to embrace His Cross.
You who loved, with unfailing devotion,
our Heavenly Mother
and professed a great tender dedication
to the destitute,
serving them, in the same way, Jesus did.
Teach us to imitate your greatest virtues,
so that we, following your example,
may enjoy your glorious protection.
Through our Lord, Jesus Christ,
who lives and reigns forever.
